To many, this year has been the ultimate “gift disappointment.” For decades, we had anticipated what the auspicious year 2020 would have in store. However, rather than the gift we dreamt of, it has held something completely different. As we approach Christmas and remember how our savior also came in an unexpected way as a baby in a manger, we also look back on this year and think of the ways He met us this year in such unexpected ways.
As we look back on this year, it’s so clear that what was unexpected for us was never out of His grasp. Each step of the way, God has worked in and through us and lovingly cared for us. Even as pieces of the picture come into focus for us, we know there are many other pieces we don’t understand, and yet we trust the loving hand of our Good Father.
Our year looked quite different from many of you. As most of the world was under the strictest times of lockdowns, we were brought through 7 cities and across 4 national borders. Each time was a story in itself, and we look back and reflect on how what we often didn’t want ended up being His perfect protection and provision.
After arriving in Kentucky, and completing two weeks of quarantine (which in itself turned out to be a blessing in time to process some of what had just happened), Jonathan’s dad suddenly needed a quadruple bypass. What a blessing to be here and able to walk through this time with them!
This year, we have had to trust for provision at even greater levels. The tremendous financial costs of these events could have paralyzed us. Indeed, we have seen some missionaries come off the field permanently due to funding in this time. Yet, we don’t believe this is God’s plan for us. Every step, He has been faithful to provide for us right as we have had the need. We are continuing to trust that for each “next step” we need to take, the manna for that day will be provided.
As we look back, we have so much to be thankful for in this time. You- our faithful partners and friends- are at the top of that list! We wish you a very Merry Christmas from our family to yours❤️
