My apologies for getting this newsletters out late. I have been going back and forth on how to start and what to say. During these uncertain times and crazy unknowns, facing quarantines, lock-downs, shut-downs, lack of toilet paper (which can be a serious thing), I just did not know how to give our story when you all are living yours. So I decided to bring Joy!
Just a few lines of this powerful Psalm is enough for a lifetime. “Joy comes in the morning, turned my mourning into dancing, clothed me with gladness, to the end that my glory may sing praise to You and not be silent, I will give thanks to You forever.” Now that is good stuff. I don’t know the outcome of the virus or it’s final effect on our world. But the one constant we have is God is Good and He loves us deeply. And that knowledge should have an even greater influence on me than anything else in this world.
All of the pictures but one were all taken pre-virus and shut-down. They are what we focus on and that give us Joy knowing we will be back at these things soon. I did throw in one from Walmart and the almost empty shelves of toilet paper. Yes, panic buying happened here as well, and yes I did by toilet paper that day, only because we actually needed it.
Congratulations to Autumn Branoch, a local missionary here in Guadalajara, on her recent marriage to Gustavo, one of our school graduates. We wish you two the best. (pictured on front page). Karyn and I had been doing some premarital talks with them over the last several months and then I had the wonderful opportunity of officiating the wedding. It was only my 2nd Mexican wedding to do but I had to do it in English. Autumn’s parents had flown down from Arizona so I did my part mainly for them and then it was translated to the rest of those in attendance. It was actually a bit difficult, but It did gave me a better understanding for those we interpret for. Overall it was a beautiful wedding. Congrats you two!
The 2nd celebration we got to be a part of was Gloria’s quinceañera (15 yr-old party). Gloria is like a daughter to us and we are her sponsors here in Mexico of things like school clothes, books, etc… We have really enjoyed investing into her life and look forward to how the Lord will use her to reach her generation. Gloria has actually asked us if we will adopt her but for now I think we will just continue on as her sponsors. We will definitely pray about how our relationship might advance.
The young girl pictured below was from an outreach we did in a park with Karyn and her band. She loved dancing and jumping with me and obviously loved taking pictures as well. I don’t know if she brought joy to me or me to her. Maybe it’s what we all need to be doing. Even in the darkest of times. Let your joy leak! Be a kid and just dance and jump in Dad’s presence. We love you all so much and continue to pray for you. Thank you for all you do for us.
