“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”
Volcanoes and Hearts
Homeschool provides great opportunities to minister to our girls!
One of the great things about homeschooling our girls is that we can choose many of the classes that they take. After the recent eruption of the Taal Volcano near Manila, the girls have been very interested in volcanoes and natural disasters.
Last year, Beth and our friend, Angela, taught a class for the girls called “God of Wonders”. They learned about many of the wonders of God, from animals to the universe. Obviously, it is impossible to cover this topic in full in our lifetimes, so we are continuing the God of Wonders class this term with a class about the wonders of nature. For their first few classes, the girls are learning about volcanoes, what causes them, what kinds exist, etc.
The Lord has brought these precious girls to the Hope House to receive restoration, and He uses many different avenues to complete that goal in their lives. In a recent class, the girls got to make their own volcanoes. But first, we were able to help them apply a lesson to their own lives and hearts. Many times, when we have gone through difficult things, our emotions can build up inside. In time, if we don’t deal with it the right way and let the Lord heal what’s happening in our hearts, our emotions might erupt, like a volcano of the heart bringing destruction to us and to those around us.
It is ever so important that we recognize what we are feeling inside and allow the Lord to come in, bring healing, and remove what is destructive. In class, each of the girls were given two worksheets…one with space to write down the things the Lord was speaking to them that have been causing damage and that He wants to heal or remove from their hearts. The other worksheet was to write down the things that the Lord wants to put in their hearts in place of those things that were hurting them.
After this, we took the girls out to the beach where they could build their own volcanoes in the sand. As they poured the vinegar in to watch their volcanoes erupt, we encouraged them to imagine those painful things they had written down earlier coming out of their hearts just like the “lava” was coming out of their volcanoes. At the end, we started a small fire where the girls could burn those papers, representing the end of those painful things that had been building up inside.
Wow, what a privilege it is to be able to apply restoration principles even in the girls’ schooling! I am so thankful that our girls are blessed with teachers that love the Lord AND want to see the girls restored. God can even use an erupting volcano to bring restoration and healing! Isn’t He good?!
The Hope House is still behind financially and very much in need of additional funds, both one-time gifts as well as monthly support. We have nine girls doing homeschool, regular family visits, many of the girls needing more dental work, and some of them needing additional medical exams. We are still in need of 29 people who would be willing to support the Hope House with $100 monthly, as well as a need for some generous one-time donations. Would you be willing to help? If so, please mark your donation “Harden – Hope House”.
My mom is here with me for a visit. She came in December and was planning to go back mid-March. However, due to the travel issues and concerns with the current coronavirus situation, we have postponed her trip until it is safer for her to travel. While I’m happy to have her here with me longer, she misses family back home. Please pray for her for grace!
