HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! It is hard to believe it is already 2020! It seems like this past year has flown by too fast! We pray that this coming year will be a year of a greater measure of the glory and love of Jesus coming into your life as well as flowing through you to others. We are so grateful for your partnership through the years. Thank you for sending us to the nations!
INDIA – THREE CITIES IN 2 WEEKS!! We left the US on Thanksgiving Day and arrived in Chennai, India on Saturday, November 30. We were so blessed to be with John and Roja Edward and their family. Josh was privileged to preach in their church on Sunday morning and we prayed for individuals for three solid hours. Josh also had the opportunity to teach the missions students on Monday. This small group of men and women are ready to go out to the unreached peoples and take the gospel. They are very inspiring and it was a joy to teach them. While in Chennai, we also were able to visit the place where Thomas, the apostle, was reportedly killed and then where he died.
On Wednesday, we and John flew to Visakhapatnam to visit Love N Care ministries headed up by Yesupadam. We have known him for years as he is a close friend of Dr. Michael Brown and has visited FIRE often. It was such a blessing to see the ministry and to be privileged to share with his leaders. Both of us were blessed to open the Word with these frontline warriors for the Lord. Many have been under intense persecution, but still are willing and ready to lay down their lives for Jesus.
Friday morning we boarded a train and headed for Vijayawada to visit our missionaries Syam and Melody Bandi. We had a very busy weekend with them planned!! Saturday night was their school Christmas Festival. Both of us were asked to share and Tobi chose to sing O Come All Ye Faithful. We were treated like royalty and showered with flowers. They have around 800 students in their school, most of whom are Hindus! There were over 1000 people present at the festival that night. It was so fun to watch the children do their dances and perform their songs. Sunday morning, Josh preached in the church and then Sunday night was the BIG EVENT!
Every December Syam and Melody put on a huge Christmas festival. They choose a different venue every year, but the goal is to bring in well known singers and musicians and have them sing Indian Christmas songs. Many of these performers are believers and they share their faith as well as their talents. We were blown away by the amazing talent of these performers! The excellence of the music was certainly glorifying to the Lord. The fact that these nationally known people would publicly proclaim their faith in Jesus was also very powerful. In India, Christianity is being persecuted and most feel that it is a low caste religion, so they do not associate Christianity with excellence in any aspect, but Syam’s vision is to change that. He wants to show that there are many believers in every aspect of society and that Jesus has something to offer everyone.
Josh was invited to share at this event. This was no small honor! At the venue during the height of the program there were 45,000 people present! Not only were all those people there, but it was live streamed on a state-wide television station. So 50,000,000 people could have been watching!! To invite a foreigner to speak at such an event was very courageous. We had told Syam that if it was not safe for him to allow Josh to speak, he would be very happy to simply attend. However, Syam boldly said for him to go for it!! So Josh shared “What Is Christmas” with millions of people!!! Although he couldn’t give an altar call, he did invite people to ask Jesus into their hearts and closed his remarks with John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son. That whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life!” This is the true meaning of Christmas!!
Tuesday we flew back to Chennai where we enjoyed another full day with John and Roja and were blessed to visit her school. She has a small school, but has vision for a bigger one. All she needs is money!!!!
Our trip to India was such a blessing. We could feel the prayers of the saints lifting us up and keeping us going. The trip went so well. Thank you for praying for us. We hope you enjoy the pictures!!
Love in Jesus,
Josh & Tobi
