Dear Friends and Family, November 2019
I pray you are enjoying health, family and thankful for each day God has given you. I am blessed to be serving here in the Philippines 11 years. 20 years ago, I couldn’t have imagined I might live on the mission field embracing life in another culture. It has been an adventure with many blessings and trials as I continue to learn to trust Him more.
There have been hundreds of earthquakes in Mindanao since August. In the last month, 53 earthquakes registered between 4.4 to 6.6 magnitude. Three of those 6+magnitude quakes came in a 2 week time frame. The areas with the most damage are 50 to 80 miles from Davao City where I live. Many people are living in fear and have lost homes and some have lost family. My 2nd floor bedroom, has developed some concerning cracks and signs of walls shifting.
Fighting fear and finding peace
I must confess, one day I found myself fighting fear with my heart racing. I had slept through another earthquake and then discovered new deep cracks in the walls. I needed to refuse to let myself give into the fears of what could have happened, so I went to pray. I had to choose to change my perspective and recognize God had once again protected me. He had even been providing for my needs before I knew I needed to ask. He gave me peace that day, as I turned my thoughts from fear to thankfulness. I was reminded of the very things I had been teaching the girls at Hope House just days before. “Worry is allowing your imagination to abuse you with ‘what ifs.”
Are there circumstances in your life that cause you to give in to worry and anxiety? God is always faithful and able to give us all we need to face the shakings life brings. Pour out your heart to Him and ask for grace to trust Him more in your process. Set your eyes on all you do have to be thankful for and you will find peace even in the storm.
Finding the blessings
One month ago, a friend had asked if I would house sit while they were traveling in the USA. I initially declined, but felt later I should help them. I had only agreed to check on it a few times over the next two months. Now, I need a safer place to sleep and God had already provided the answer. My friend is thrilled that I will spend more time there and given permission to store my belongings there while I look for new housing. I should note, that the prayer room in my house was the only place upstairs without new cracks. Under the shelter of His wings in the place of prayer.
I have so much to be thankful for:
- 11 years of God adventures
- DaHOP celebrates one year
- New FSM students this semester
- Hope House welcomes a new teacher
- More time with Hope house girls this month
- Teaching on prayer at FSM and Hope House
- Lizy living with me and helping me prepare to move
- The car dealer refunded my money (title was bad)
- God’s provision to find a better car and housing
UPRising Northern Mindanao
I was able to travel to United Prayer Rising a few weeks ago. It was a 3 day event including a full day solemn assembly of prayer and fasting. We contended for a generation to rise up in prayer to call forth destiny and bring transformation to Mindanao.
Thank you for your faithful prayers and support that have made it possible for me to continue to serve here 11 years. You share in the heavenly rewards of the ministry here.
How can I pray for you? Please email me your prayer requests.
Please pray for:
-Protection, peace, health and joy
-Forever families for HFAC children
-Continued healing and restoration of Hope House girls
-Wisdom in finding housing and a reliable car
-Integrity and faithfulness of construction workers at HFAC
-Construction of the 2nd HFAC children’s home and education center
-Holy spirit led stewardship of the blessings I have been given
