After living in Western Washington for 9 months, we’re finally seeing all of that rain we’ve heard about! For much of the year, our region was uncharacteristically dry, but the grass is turning green again. We’re very much reminded of England as we settle into the autumn season.
In our last newsletter, we mentioned that we are on the children’s church schedule once a month and also that Greg has increased his discipleship ministry to include another young man. Since then, Debbie has joined the student ministries team at church and is now helping weekly with middle school kids, including leading a small group of girls. Greg has been asked to be a life coach for men at David’s House, a ministry the church runs for men who have come off of drugs. These men are housed temporarily until they are ready to move out on their own. They have the opportunity to grow both as new Christians and also as young men who need to integrate back into society with jobs and responsibilities. Right now, he is doing discipleship with one of the men who has already left David’s House but needs a mentor to be there for him and to help him continue growing and learning. We really appreciate these opportunities that the Lord has brought our way, as they are ministries close to our hearts.
Our son Isaac turned 18 last month! We’re not sure how that happened, but…it did! He’s excited about joining the ranks of adult men and enjoys rubbing it in that we’re now parents of an adult. Within one week, he registered for Selective Service, registered to vote, and got his Washington driver’s license. We’re looking into job possibilities, and he plans to start applying soon. We’re also hoping to find him a good car, so he can drive himself to work. Meanwhile, we work steadily on his college application process. Please keep him in your prayers about all of these things—that God will grant him wisdom and open the right doors.
We have a desire we’d like to share with you. In April 2020, Hope Church in Crewe, England, will be celebrating its 10thanniversary. Since we helped plant Hope Church while we were missionaries in England, we would very much like to make a trip there in April to be a part of that special anniversary. It’s been more than 3 years since we were there, so we’d really love to go as a family. While we’re excited about the doors God has been opening up for us here in Washington, part of our hearts are still with the team in Crewe. Getting to go back for a visit, seeing all our friends and church family, and getting to be a part of what the Lord is doing there now, even if only for a few weeks, would be a huge blessing for us. Of course, airline tickets are an expense we don’t currently have money for. If anyone is interested in donating toward our hoped-for trip to England, we have a travel fund with Fire International. You can send a check and write “travel” on the memo line, or if you are sending a donation for that in addition to monthly support, you can write one check with a note of how much is for monthly support and how much is for travel. If you donate online, go to our profile and click the donate button. From there, you can leave a comment telling what the donation is for. No pressure…just give (or not) as the Lord prompts you.
In our last newsletter, we mentioned our need for increased monthly support. This month, we’d also like to remind you that you may use the enclosed remit envelope to send us prayer requests. You don’t have to donate to request prayer, by the way! We always pray for the requests that come in. If you’d rather not use the envelope to send a prayer request, you may also email us at email@example.com, send us a private message on facebook, or text us at 417-280-2052 (Greg) or 417-280-2099 (Debbie). We’re all in this together, and praying for each other is important. Even if you don’t financially support us, we still need prayer, and we want to pray for you, too.
Just as a reminder, Greg will be available to speak at churches when he returns to Missouri for a short trip after Thanksgiving. He will be available December 1-8 for any church service or meeting in the Thayer-West Plains area (or anywhere in between or even beyond). He would love to share what’s happening here in Washington as well as what the needs are in this region. Please contact him if you or your church is interested in Greg meeting up with you and/or sharing at your church or group.
That’s all for this month!
