Blessing on you all from Puebla, Mexico, the home of the original 5 de Mayo. It was here in this town that the Battle of Puebla took place and in 1862 Mexico defeated the French. I hope you all are well and are finding victories in your own lives. Enjoy this month’s news.
Treasures in the Streets
Many think that those living in the streets deserve to be there, and honestly many are there because of the poor choices they have made, but no one deserves to be robbed, beat, harassed, or exploited because of their bad choices. So we go after those that call the streets of Guadalajara their home and we choose to see them from heaven’s perspective and try to treat them as much as Jesus loves them. They are all treasures in His eyes and with that thought on our hearts we do what we can to make them feel loved. Knowing this past week would be the last visit til the end of the year we set up a table and gave out sandwiches, drinks, candy, gospel of John, prayers, hugs, music, and even a few toothbrushes and toothpastes. We don’t just feed people weekly, we connect with them and share Jesus with them.
Just recently we met a young man from another part of Mexico that came to Guadalajara looking for work. All he found were 3 nights on the streets and he was scared to death to stay another. We were able to connect him to a local drug rehab center and a pastor friend of ours and the young man couldn’t be happier. As a matter of fact I just received a text from him today telling me thanks and that he is very content being off the streets. When we left him he understood that Jesus was on his side and this was a tremendous opportunity for him to get his life back in order. Thank you Jesus for the treasure you see in Mario. Maybe there are treasures in your area just waiting to be found. Put on heaven’s lenses and got out and do some treasure hunting.
Treasures in the House
We have mentioned the home ran by fellow missionary Karen David. She is doing an incredible job raising 9 beautiful young girls in her home. As mentioned before, these girls have all had really bad experiences in life and have been taken from their families for their protection. Their ages range from 5-15 and they are all as precious as can be. They call me Tio Andrecito (Uncle Andy) and Karyn of course is Tia. We help out as much as possible in the home from running errands, cutting hair, cutting grass, plumbing, and Karyn obviously heading up the games and entertainment.
One of the girls just celebrated her 15th birthday and here in Mexico that’s a big deal. It’s called a Quinceañera and usually has food, song, and fun. I had to cover her eyes for the picture just for her safety but the girls were more than happy to wear the masks. Karen David recently gave her Kris Vallotton’s book called Moral Revolution. If you have a teen in your house they need to read this book. We gave it to our kids years back and after reading it Hunter expressed his desire for a purity pact with Jesus so we gave him a ring to wear to symbolize his commitment. After telling our birthday girl about our son, she decided she would like to make a similar commitment as well. So when we return after our itineration time we are going to get her a ring and walk her through a pact with Jesus. That is so awesome. These girls just need love and positive attention, if you are interested in helping financially any one of them please let us know. Karen would definitely appreciate it.
Again thank you for everything. So many people touched and changed because you are so generous.
