Jesus said “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…”(Matt 28:19) He did not say to go and make converts or Christians. No, he said to make disciples, in verse 20 he says “and teach them to faithfully follow all that I have commanded you…”. In place of disciples we could put “followers of Jesus”. Jesus is looking for a people that will live their lives here on earth as he lived his (1 John 2:6). If we are going to see a generation become followers of Jesus then we the Church have to begin fathering (and mothering). To make disciples takes relationship and that is what true fathering is all about. Paul said in 1 Corinthians 4:15 that though the believers in Corinth had “…countless guides in Christ, [they did] not have many fathers.” The main difference between a guide/teacher and a father is that a guide says “do what I say” and a father says “do what I do”. Fathers don’t just give instructions or commands but they live their lives out before their children, so that they can imitate them. We need a generation to rise up that will father and mother the fatherless around us, be it the physically fatherless or the countless individuals that we work with, go to school with or even attend church with that are spiritually fatherless.
The building of the second children’s home is well on the way now. This coming week we will be pouring the second floor. By the beginning of September we should be beginning the digging of the footers for our learning center (school) that we are building.
Our family just returned a few weeks ago from a month trip to the States. The Lord provided that we were all able to go back for Tony’s youngest sister’s wedding. We were blessed to all be able to be in South Dakota to share in this family celebration. While we were in the States we were also able to spend sometime with Kristi’s family. It was refreshing to be with our family for a few weeks but are glad to be back home in the Philippines.
