Dear family and friends,
Two thumbs up pretty much describes how our summer is going so far! We just finished with our Vacation Bible School and every year gets better and better. We use this time to not only bless our kids who attend church, but also as an outreach to our neighborhood. We ended up with kids from all around our city.
Our number one goal in planning any VBS or camp is to create an opportunity for kids to not only hear about God, but encounter Him. I think we underestimate God’s desire to speak to children and their ability to hear Him. After one of our story times, we took a few minutes to sing a worship song with the kids and encourage them to talk to God and listen for His voice. We noticed one of the girls sitting quietly with tears in her eyes. Later we found out that she had a vision of herself as a baby and Jesus standing over her. She knew Jesus was going to take care of her! This encouragement couldn’t have come at a better time. At home this little girl is going through chaos. While she regularly attends church with her mom, her father has recently become an alcoholic, sometimes not coming home at night. But now she knows her Heavenly Father is always there.
God not only touched the lives of the kids, but our volunteers as well. We had a lot of new helpers this year, several of whom are also new to church. It was a great time for us to mentor and speak into their lives. They loved being able to serve and I think they might’ve even had more fun than the kids did.
With VBS behind me, I’m now in full force planning youth camp. We already have 40 youth/young adults signed up and I’m sure it’ll be an incredible time.
In June we had a short, but fruitful visit from the directors of FIRE International, Dr. Josh and Tobi Peters. With lots of other missionaries to visit, it had been a while since they had been with us and much of the ministry has changed since then. We were so happy to share with them all that God is doing. They were a huge encouragement to our ministry leaders and church as well.
As always, thank you for making a difference in Ukraine!
Hidden In Him,
Max & Amanda
About Max & Amanda Fetisov (Gage)
Amanda has been serving in Ukraine since 2005. With a burden for the children and youth, she has ministered in orphanages and detention centers since she first arrived. Throughout the years, as she watched these children grow up and repeat the same heart-breaking mistakes of their addicted parents, her focus shifted to supporting these aged-out orphans as they transition from the orphanage into their adult lives. Through bible studies, support programs and transition homes she is working to see the cycle of poverty, abandonment and hopelessness broken in their lives.
