Hi Family and Friends,
Warm, very warm greetings from Davao City! Summer is upon us and the temps lately are proving it!!! I’ve acclimated and I actually enjoy wearing jeans or pants most days, I like to wear sneakers and close toed shoes, I even find myself getting “cold” and wearing a jacket at work because our office has air conditioning and my house does not. But when summer comes ALL comfort goes out the window!! With the heat index most days are 100+ with 100% humidity!!! It’s hot y’all!!!!
I was trying to figure out what to write about in this newsletter as I was sitting at my desk reading an article about staff development and I had the thought…..’I need to give an update on missionary life. What am I doing that qualifies me to be a missionary?’ You see, I have this thought or thoughts similar to it regularly. More so since I’ve taken the director of operations position at Global Impact and ‘ministry’ looks VERY different.
I chose the four pictures above because they each reflect a significant part of what makes me a missionary…….Picture 1- Teresa, Sherika & Aiza (along with Pastor Amy who is not pictured) makes up Global Impact’s current Pastoral Staff. A few months ago a few employees were having some issues and I had to mediate and in the midst of it I asked the Lord, ‘What am I doing running a foundation? Is this really what you called me here for?” His response, “You are pastoring the ones that I love.” Picture 2- Sherika sharing a word of encouragement during our staff team building retreat. “You are pastoring the ones that I love.” Picture 3- Sherika leading worship and sharing about the “God of Creation” in New Zealand, “You are pastoring the ones that I love.” Picture 4-Sherika further educating myself about staff motivation and development, “You are pastoring the ones that I love.’ Sometimes I need to be reminded that it’s not about how I feel, it’s all about the ones that He loves. Please don’t get me wrong, I love my life here and I am beyond blessed and honored to be a part of the Global team, but I always want to make sure I’m on the right track, staying true to who He has called me to be and making sure I’m pressing toward the goal of His highest call in my life….Pastoring the ones that He loves.
Love and blessings, Sherika
