Dear Family and Friends,
Happy New Year! I hope that your 2019 has begun with a spirit of promise and expectation! I know that this year the Lord has a lot in store and I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds! I’ve enjoyed my time in the States, spending Christmas with my family, visiting friends, sharing in churches, and doing some much needed shopping! But I’ll be ready to head back to life and ministry in Ukraine on February 11th! Please pray for my trip back to Krivoy Rog! Prayer Points for 2019
- For God to appoint Ukraine’s next President in the elections on March 31st, 2019
- For peace and an end to the war in Eastern Ukraine
- For Ukrainians to encounter Jesus and be saved
- For 2019 to be a year of the supernatural with healings, freedom, and miracles!
- For both Church of Truth and Church of Praise to see great spiritual breakthrough and the raising up of more leaders
- For protection, health, refreshing, and fresh vision for myself and my team
- For a spiritual awakening in Ukraine marked by hunger for the Lord, passion, prayer, revelation of the Word, a new wave of worship music written by Ukrainians, and the presence of the Holy Spirit
Testimony: I met Lena many years ago during our dorm ministry and now she is part of our church family in Krivoy Rog. Lena has some mental challenges, but she is able to live on her own and care for herself. I’ve spent so much time talking with Lena and praying with her, but I was never sure how much she truly understands. Back in December, Lena told my friend Amanda that she decided to pray on her own since God is supposed to be her Good Father and she wants to know Him. So she sat in her apartment and prayed for the first time by herself and Lena said that afterwards she felt warmth fill her heart. When Amanda asked Lena how she prayed, her response was: “I prayed just how you taught me – like I’m talking to my best friend.” To type those words still brings tears to my eyes! I now know that she gets it and that is priceless to me! You don’t always see the fruit of your labors but this just overwhelmed my heart with gratitude to God for allowing us to be part of Lena’s story.
Tea Evangelism: Since it’s winter now, the hot tea and coffee has been very welcome on the streets! A few people have been concerned that we are part of a political party since Presidential elections are coming up on March 31st. But when they find out that we are believers then they are happy to have a cup of tea with us. The last time I was out on the streets, I spent some time praying with a dear Babushka. She felt completely alone and abandoned. I was able to share with her how Father God never leaves her and never will abandon her and her face just lit up with hope as she received this truth! When I returned to the States for Christmas, I was so encouraged because my team still wanted to do Tea Evangelism even without me there! They did it for Christmas and had a fabulous time praying and loving on people! I’m so proud of them!
Christmas Outreach: Our team did several special outreaches right before Christmas. We brought a ton of craft supplies and special treats for each of the children in the Tuberculosis hospital. At Greenfield Women’s home we held a special party where each of the ladies received a gift that included Christmas candies and nice warm socks! They were delighted! We also made sure to give gifts to the nurses at both the TB hospital and the women’s home – they were so surprised that we thought of them too!
Hats, Mittens, Scarves, and Blankets: We were able to bless many people with a simple gift of something warm for the holidays from the many donated items I received from the States. Handmade blankets were given out to some of the college students in the dorms and they were so happy because the dorm rooms are always so cold! The majority of the hats, mittens, and scarves were given to children at a local boarding school where there are over 200 students that were all in need of warm winter gear. As we went from classroom to classroom handing out hats, I was overcome by how much true joy and excitement these children had! Kids were coming and peeking in the classrooms to see if the news was true, that new hats were being given out! The majority of these kids come from families in difficult circumstances (alcoholism, sickness, poverty) and to have new mittens and hats was a real treat. We shared with all the kids how these gifts came from people in the USA who love them and pray for them, and most importantly about Father’s love for them. Sometimes the simple giving of a warm pair of gloves or a new stocking hat are a seed for the Gospel that will one day bear fruit. Father uses even the littlest things to remind us of His love!
Support: I want to say a heartfelt Thank You to those individuals and churches that have been supporting me! Some have been partnering with me from when I first moved to Ukraine almost 16 years ago and others have just begun supporting me this past year. For all of you, I am truly thankful and I could not be fulfilling the call of God on my life without your help – we are in this together for the Kingdom! I also want to give an encouragement, if you haven’t donated before, maybe 2019 is the year to start! More resources simply means more ministry opportunities for us in Ukraine! Ways to Donate: Send a check in the enclosed remit envelope made out to FIRE International with my name, Leann Peterson, in the memo line. A second way is to go to fire-international.org and click on the donate button. There you can make a one time donation or setup an automatic monthly donation. Thank you! It’s all for His glory! God bless you! Thank you so much for being part of the work in Ukraine! I pray that in 2019 you see the glory of God in your life and that He gives you a greater revelation of His heart!
