This has been a month of beginnings. We have begun our formal partnership development this May and have begun meeting with churches and others. We went through our Restoring the Foundations ministry in the end of April and now see so much in a new light, as well as see how to apply it to circumstances that we come in contact with. The kids have begun soccer practice which has a two fold purpose, 1 the kids love it, and 2 it gives the kids some training on Brazils national sport so that they will be more adept and accepted when they play with Brazilian children. I saw this when we were in Brazil in September when they chose Corban last and then when they found out that he was a good goalie then both teams wanted him. I have also begun construction for the season.
I have had the honor to preach twice this month on “God Uses Broken People” and again on “You Have to Stand for Something”. I so want to see the church equipped and vibrant, going out in their communities and making a difference. To see people blessed by Jesus by being delivered from their wickedness and, as a result of that, families and individuals are changed for the good as a result of the gospel. One definition of character is to be the same in the dark as you are in the light. That also applies to our church life, to be the same person you are in your communities as you are in your church building regardless of the position that you play in the church. I believe that if the church does this then our communities will be changed within a month.
We have taken the kids to downtown Fairbanks to share the gospel now that it is warm enough that the kids won’t get cold. It was great watching them initiate conversations with people by handing out dandelions to people. It was cool. We had a couple good conversations, one that really stuck out was with an atheist name Justin. Atheists are so fun to talk to, I can relate to them because I was one until I was 18. Justin is an airplane mechanic for the fire fighters, and was checking out downtown on his time off. I was able to share from creation to the cross with him over the next hour, and he thanked me and said that I gave him a lot to think about.
Another individual that impacted me was a native named Farren. He was recently saved out of the Mormon church and said he was now going to a local church. He said that he wants a real friend in his words “someone who doesn’t just want to hang out with me to smoke marijuana or drink”. I gave him my information and told him to contact us any time. He said that he would and would like to join a Bible study. He was so soft spoken and seemed sincere on his desire. I pray that he contacts us or that we see him again downtown so that we can love on him and get his information and, Lord willing, have the opportunity to pour into him as long as we are in Alaska.
God has been speaking to our hearts and confirming the message through others, as a result we are very excited and encouraged as we move forward in our partnership development and our preparation for Brazil. We are very excited and expectant to see how God will provide.
Please pray for grace and favor as we advance in our partnership development, that God will give us the right persons at the right time. Please pray for the right buyers at the right time for our home and business. Our plan is to put it for sale once we reach 80% of our financial goals since we need a house until we go, but we cannot go to Brazil until our house and business sells. Please pray that we proclaim the truth of Jesus with boldness and clarity to others.
Thank you for all your prayers and support.
Blessings in Christ
