Origins are important. Whether you are talking about the foundation of a house, the foundation of your faith, or the foundation of the universe, what you believe and how that belief is put into practice makes all the difference. It literally affects every area of your life. If a person builds a house and spends extra time to build a very strong foundation, you continue to build and finish your house. At first the house looks perfect but in time you realize that the doors don’t close and the sheet rock is cracking and with further inspection find that the extra strong concrete foundation that you so meticulously laid is cracked from the cold and specifically from the movement of the ground as it freezes harder. The problem is that it does not matter how strong you build your foundation if it is built on the wrong ground or origins.

When talking with tourists or believers we often discuss origins, because how we see the world is affected by what we believe our origins are. If a person believes they came from ooze that came from a rock that came from nothing (evolution) or the universe created itself out of nothing because it had to exist, (which is like saying that I gave birth to myself because I had to exist, which simply is not logical) then anything goes. I have no accountability and I am no more important than a, dog an insect, or a blade of grass. But when we realize that the house we discussed earlier had something to make it come into existence (a cause) since it had a beginning, we had a cause since we had a beginning and so the universe had to have a cause since it had a beginning. Time, space, matter, and energy all had a beginning with the universe. Therefore, whatever caused the universe had to exist outside of time, space, matter and energy. It would also have to be personal to create something from nothing. God is eternal which means He has no beginning and no end which allows Him to be the uncaused cause that created the universe. God is timeless or outside of time which allows Him to be at all times at the same time, therefore He does not change. God is outside of space which allows Him to be at all spaces/places at the same time since He created space. God is all powerful and in so being created energy at the Genesis of the universe. God is Spirit which means He is immaterial (not made of matter) which allows Him to be God in heaven and Jesus on earth at the same time. God is personal because He created the universe out of nothing which means He did it intentionally and therefore created you intentionally which means you have value and a purpose. If this foundation of God is to be even remotely plausible then it would only make sense that we would find the creation of time, space, matter and energy in the first chapter of Genesis. That is exactly what we find “In the beginning (time) God created the heavens (space) and the earth (matter).

Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light (energy),” and there was light.” Genesis 1:1-3 NIV. In the first 3 verses of the Bible we find time, space, energy and matter, and later in the chapter find that we were made in the image of God. In verse 1:27 we were made to have a relationship with the Creator of the universe. Building on these origins we are now accountable to someone outside of ourselves; we all have value, and we all have purpose.

It is amazing to see the transformation in the faces of the tourists as the fact that they have value and purpose sinks in. This has allowed us the platform to share sin and the plan of salvation with them. We had the opportunity to speak to a group of campus missionaries from Virginia, and shared and expounded on these topics. I asked their leader when they came for rides if I could share and he let me go. I shared with them what I wished I knew when I was their age and Lord willing solidified their foundations. This is part of what we want to bring to Brazil. The miracle working Savior Creator of heaven and earth.

Please pray for God’s guidance in our next step in our partnership development, that God brings the right person or people to purchase our business, and please pray that we can and will share the gospel boldly and clearly with the love of Jesus.

Thank you and blessings in Jesus name,
