“Life happens” is a phrase that has come up a lot this month. It can challenge you to dig in and go deeper or to give in and give up. It challenges you to check your heart and motives for why we do what we do and it helps to accept the unexpected so that we can handle it in a Christ honoring way. Because Life happens we are re-evaluating our hearts for why we do what we do. We are praying more, sharing more pointingly with the tourists that go through our dog sled business, and finding greater value in building relationships. As a result, we are seeing the fruit of our intentionality in willingness to listen and gratitude from others.
We have had many great conversations this month. One that sticks out in my mind was with a couple named Ebok and Tsu-ling. We were discussing Chinese New Year and they shared that they were Taoist and that they went to temple and worshiped the spirits for New Years. We were able to use this as an open door to share the gospel and the love of Christ with them. We began by defining the natural and the supernatural. Natural being anything created including angels, demons, the souls of men and everything that you can see and touch. Supernatural as anything that is uncreated. We told them about the God who made all things, that it made more sense to worship the creator than the creation. We shared about sin and forgiveness and who Christ is, why he came and what he did for them. It was the first time that they heard the gospel. It was a cool group. We had the opportunity to serve an AG pastor and former missionary to the Middle East.
He about broke into tears when we told him all ministers of the gospel ride for free that his dog sled ride was free for him and his son that he was visiting. We spoke with him for an hour and a half after his ride about life on the mission field. The cool thing about it all is that Life happens. Life makes what we do worth the troubles and hardships that we endure. Life keeps us focused on the prize and the ultimate goal, whether known or unknown, understood or not. It is our job as believers in the Life to make known the Life to a lost and dying world and bring them understanding of the Life that has made such a difference in our lives.
“Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6 NIV
Please pray that we can proclaim the gospel to those we meet even clearer and boldly yet full of the love and life of Jesus. That what we have in us is evident to those we meet and our love for others will show as it should. And please pray for the right buyer for our dog sled business and property, and that our friend raising/ partnership building will gain momentum so that we won’t have to rely on our skills to make a living but that we can share our vision full time, share the gospel full time and get to Brazil and begin ministering to the people of that country full time.
We love you and bless you in the name of Jesus
